Along with all the people I already know, another familiar figure just joined the list of people I share a birthday with!
Rio de Janiero’s Christ the Redeemer was both dedicated and consecrated on my birthday. And you all thought his birthday was December 25th!
Also, thanks to the fabulous folks at Wikipedia (ready to get pomo?) I was also made aware of the fact that my Birthday Jesus Statue is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. You may notice that an honorary mention goes to the Giza Pyramids for being the only ancient wonder still…being wonderful.
Who makes these lists anyway? Who decides what’s officially wonderful? I watched The History Boys last week and this reminds me of that. Actually everything has been reminding me of it. It was one of those cinematic experiences that really stays with you, almost hauntingly, where the film, the characters, the words, the whole world of it plague your mind, keeping you up at night. Not only was this movie chock full of cute boys (and totally Queer to boot) but it also very pointedly raises questions about the origins of events and the happenings of the world. Watch it.
I digress… Good to know that every time I age a year I will now think of the New Holy Trinity: Jesus, soapstone and Gisele Bündchen. Not that I don’t already think of Gisele.
